In Her Image offers a number of procedures essential to women’s health. Mammograms and ultrasound tests are performed on the most advanced diagnostic equipment by Siemens, a world leader in imaging technology.

Our Procedures include:
Mammography
Our digital mammography unit is one of the latest technological advances in breast imaging, offering high-speed digital imaging to produce images of the breast with greater accuracy than older digital or film mammography. The system also uses the lowest possible dose of radiation and has compression paddles that adapt to each patient’s unique breast size and density to provide the utmost comfort during the screening.

In addition, In Her Image is an official Softer MammogramTM Provider, proudly offering the benefits of this feature to all patients of In Her Image.

This specialized pad makes the exam softer, warmer and more comfortable for each and every woman.

Diagnostic Mammography
Diagnostic mammography is a radiological study of the breast(s) to evaluate
signs or symptoms of a breast disorder or screening-detected abnormalities.
Diagnostic mammography may also be performed on individuals with a history
of breast cancer.

The diagnostic mammogram includes additional views of the breast and
may also include ultrasound, and possibly breast MRI. This is because
women receiving diagnostic mammograms are experiencing a problem –
perhaps they’ve happened upon a lump, noticed nipple discharge or pain,
or received a concerning screening mammogram.  A diagnostic
mammogram helps explain and diagnose such concerns.

A radiologist will read the diagnostic mammogram as soon as it is completed.
Women receiving diagnostic mammograms may be asked to remain at the
mammography facility until they receive an answer regarding their test results.

Ultrasound
A breast ultrasound is a noninvasive procedure that may be recommended in addition to the yearly screening mammogram for women who could be at higher risk for breast cancer, have dense breasts or otherwise difficult to interpret mammograms. In addition, we provide thyroid, abdominal, pelvic, transvaginal, and renal ultrasound tests to help diagnose and treat various women’s health concerns.

Bone Density Scan (Dexxa)
This noninvasive test is performed using advanced Dexxa equipment to identify potential bone mineral loss or osteoporosis. Our Dexxa scanner uses a unique pencil beam targeted X-ray, which means our patients are only exposed to the minimum amount of radiation necessary to perform this screening.

Biopsy
To determine whether any abnormalities are cancerous, a biopsy procedure would remove a small amount of tissue from the breast to be examined by a pathologist and diagnosed. We provide stereotactic, fine needle and core needle biopsy procedures by expert physicians.

Stereotactic
Stereotactic breast biopsy is an image guided procedure where a physician uses
a mammography to navigate the biopsy needle to suspicious areas.

Fine Needle
Fine needle is the least invasive method of biopsy. First, the breast is numbed
and then the surgeon or the radiologist will use a thin needle to remove a
sample of cells from the area. In some cases the surgeon will be guided
by a lump. In others, imaging studies may be needed to guide the needle to the
correct location.

Core Needle
Core needle uses a larger hollow needle to remove several
cylinder-shaped samples of tissue from the suspicious area. In some cases,
multiple samples are taken to ensure proper diagnosis.

Biopsy Results
In the case of biopsy results, you will be notified within approximately 72 hours by our breast surgeon or breast radiologist depending on who performs your biopsy.

Patient Preparation:
Mammography Prepreparation
  • Please try to schedule your mammogram just after your menstrual period.
  • For all breast diagnostic and intervention procedures, please do not use deodorant, powders or lotions under the arms or near the breast prior to the examination. These products can actually have a negative effect on the X-ray making them more difficult to view and interpret.
  • Please remember to bring or send any previous test results or diagnostic imagery.

Biopsy Preparation
  • Stop aspirin 7-10 days prior to the biopsy or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents for 3 days prior to the biopsy.
  • If you take a blood thinner such as coumadin, heparin or other anticoagulants, please tell our staff so we can coordinate discontinuance of the medication and pre-biopsy blood work with your physician.
  • If you have any medical condition please take a moment to let us know.
  • Eat a light breakfast on the morning of your appointment.
  • Bring the prescription from your physician and any insurance information including your referral or pre-certification on the day of your appointment.
